Stagecraft Pathway
The Stagecraft program prepares individuals to apply artistic, technical and dramatic principles and techniques to the communication of dramatic information, ideas, moods, and feelings through technical theatre methods. The program includes instruction in set design, lighting design, sound effects, theatre acoustics, scene painting, property management, costume design, and technical direction and production and use of computer applications to support these functions.
Stagecraft students also develop leadership, social, civic, and career skills through their participation in the state-recognized Career and Technical Student Organization Skills USA. The Stagecraft instructional program prepares students for entry-level employment, further training, and/or post-secondary education for these and other occupations: Set and Exhibit Designer, Costume Designer, Stitcher, Lighting Designer, Master Electrician, Scenic Carpenter & Painter, Props Master, Run Crew Member, Audio & Video Equipment Technician, etc.
Program Completer:
- Students must complete at least 2 Stagecraft courses.
DCE Stagecraft:
- Must be a program completer.
- This course employs a Diversified Cooperative Education (DCE) methodology, with one teacher overseeing students across various program areas, to integrate school-based and supervised work-based learning experiences aligned with the Stagecraft Program standards.
| Stagecraft 1 | This class allows students to experience a wide array of areas within technical theatre. You’ll get a taste for carpentry, painting, costuming, props making, lighting and electrics, and will receive training on theatre etiquette. Fall Semester will include a tour of the facility, with a focus on safety, theatre history, construction, and painting techniques. In addition, there will be project based units such as props desig. Spring Semester will focus on costume construction, theatre technology in sound and lighting, and stage management. |

| Stagecraft 2 | Fall Semester will build on the skills of Stagecraft I, covering additional topics such as advanced carpentry techniques, rigging, drafting, makeup, and design. Students will also complete the OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification in this class. Spring Semester, the focus will be on design and production during which students will develop their portfolios and begin to focus on an area that interests them. |
| Stagecraft 3 | With a college and career focus, the students of Stagecraft III spend class time building their portfolios and resumes with a particular area of technical theatre in mind. Students will have the most time to work on individual projects and will collaborate together on production designs. In addition, students will learn industry standards for how productions are run and the specific responsibilities of theatre professionals. |
