Stagecraft Pathway
The Stagecraft program trains individuals in artistic, technical, and dramatic principles to effectively communicate dramatic ideas and emotions through technical theatre. It covers set design, lighting, sound effects, theatre acoustics, scene painting, property management, costume design, technical direction, production, and relevant computer applications.
Stagecraft students gain leadership, social, civic, and career skills through the recognized Thespians organization. The program prepares them for entry-level jobs, further training, or post-secondary education in various fields, including art, drama, and music teaching, as well as set design and audio/video technology.
Program Completer:
- Students must complete at least 2 Stagecraft courses.
DCE Stagecraft:
- Must be a program completer.
- This course employs a Diversified Cooperative Education (DCE) methodology, with one teacher overseeing students across various program areas, to integrate school-based and supervised work-based learning experiences aligned with the Stagecraft Program standards.
Stagecraft 1 | This class is ideal for those who prefer working behind the scenes. The Fall Semester covers facility tours, operating lights and sound, safe rigging, special effects makeup, prop building, flat construction, and sewing. The Spring Semester focuses on painting techniques, stage management, and using hand and power tools. |

Stagecraft 2 | The Fall Semester enhances Stagecraft I skills, covering topics like building doors, stairs, and revolving platforms, safe rigging techniques, advanced audio production, lighting, and preparing for competitions. Students will earn the OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification. In Spring Semester, the focus shifts to design and production, where students select a play to create a production book and design portfolio, and learn to record sounds and audio for their projects. |
Stagecraft 3 | Students in Stagecraft III focus on college and career preparation by building sets for KHS productions, operating lights and sound for events, researching suitable colleges and degrees or business internships, and completing independent theatre projects. They also have the chance to direct and produce a play. |
