Early Childhood Education Pathway
The Early Childhood Education program includes topics on child development, health, nutrition, safety, and creating suitable learning activities. It also covers child guidance, family relationships, parenting, and legal requirements, equipping students to manage effective early childhood programs and facilities.
The Early Childhood Education program prepares students for entry-level jobs and further education as Preschool Teachers, Day Care Workers, and Kindergarten Teachers. They develop leadership, social, civic, and career skills through organizations like Family, Community, and Career Leaders of America and Educators Rising.
Program Completer:
- Students must complete Early Childhood Education 1, 2, and 3.
DCE Early Childhood Education:
- Must be a program completer.
- This course employs a Diversified Cooperative Education (DCE) methodology, with one teacher overseeing students across various program areas to integrate school-based and supervised work-based learning for the Early Childhood Education Program standards.
Early Childhood Education 1 | Start your journey to an extraordinary life by learning to work with small children. The course covers professionalism, values, goal setting, communication skills, and child development theory, including prenatal development and growth from birth to age 8. This knowledge is essential for becoming a mature, caring adult and prepares you for a career in early childhood education. The more you learn, the better prepared you'll be. |

Early Childhood Education 2 | In the second year of the ECE program, students focus on caring for and promoting development in young children through observations, projects, and in-depth studies. They engage in hands-on activities like storytelling, puppetry, and healthy snacks, while exploring various professions in early childhood. Students spend at least 50% of their time working with teachers at Little Explorers Early Learning Center. Prerequisite: Early Childhood 1. |
Early Childhood Education 3 | The ECE 3 course builds on competencies from the national Child Development Associate (CDA) program, focusing on child development for ages 0-5. Students engage in hands-on experiences, daily cleaning duties, and life skills applicable to a work site. The course emphasizes lifelong guidelines for high school students and young children, with reading/writing assignments related to children and families. Students spend all their time working alongside teachers at Little Explorers Early Learning Center. This course is repeatable for credit. Prerequisite: Early Childhood 2 **BLOCK CLASS**. |
