GUI 0320: Lab Assistant-Job Shadow

Credits 0.5 (Per Semester)

Live job shadow with local health care professionals in various fields including: PT, AT, Personal Trainer and others as available. Students will apply knowledge gained from MED0261/0262 and MED0361/0362 in hands-on activities when working with AT on campus. When off campus with local professionals, will be asked to perform tasks on an as-needed basis and as is allowable by supervisor. Students will gain workplace knowledge and experience in real world health careers. Students will rotate with local providers each quarter, and will be with providers 2 days per week, and with AT the other two days. Student must apply during Junior year and complete application and interview process. Only 2 students per school will be accepted.

MED 0261/0262: Sports Medicine 1 A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)

This course is designed for students interested in learning howto prevent, assess, and manage athletic injuries. Students interested in pursuing a career such as athletic trainer, physical therapist, nurse, EMT, fireman, police officer, coach, pesonal trainer or any other sport or medical related field would benefit from the knowledge and skills learned. Emphasis is placed on human anatomy and physiology and the fundamentals of health related careers. Students will be instructed on theory with practical applications as allowed.

MED 0361/0362: Advanced Sports Medicine 2 A/B

Credits 1.0 (0.5 Credits Per Semester)
A continuation of MED 0262. This course will focus more on practical applications of the knowledge gained in MED0262 with supplemental lectures. This course requires participation after school and/or on weekends as necessary.

MED0365: DCE Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation

This course utilizes Diversified Cooperative Education (DCE) methodology, one teacher responsible for students within multiple program areas, to combine school-based and supervised work-based learning experiences related to the standards identified for the Sports Medicine Program.
