Education Professions
The Education Professions program equips students for education careers by exploring career choices, educational systems, theories, pedagogy, and learning styles. It includes hands-on experiences with diverse age groups and aligns with community college courses for paraprofessional preparation. Graduates will develop technical skills, critical thinking, academic abilities, civic responsibility, and insights into how human development affects learning.
The Education Professions instructional program prepares students for entry-level employment, further training, and/or post-secondary education for these and other occupations: Paraprofessional, Instructional Assistant, Elementary Teacher, Secondary Teacher, and After School Program Assistant.
Program Completer:
- Students must have completed Education Professions I and II.
Industry Certifications:
- Can earn Paraprofessional Praxis, Child Find, CPR/AED, and First Aid.
Education Professions I | This introductory class exposes students to careers and opportunities in education. It covers education career choices, structure, theories, history, pedagogy, developmental stages, learning styles, and instructional methods. The Education Professions I class includes interactive experiences with students of various age levels across different educational settings. |
Education Professions II | This class provides aspiring educators with an immersive experience, focusing on career options, educational systems, theories, history, pedagogy, and learning styles. Students will work with K-8 learners and create lesson plans. Completing Education Professions I and II enhances employability and qualifies them as program completers. They may also take community college courses in high school, potentially earning an associate degree by graduation, which aligns with MCC’s Bachelor's program in education. |

MCC is offering a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. Students who are interested in this may need to take additional courses through MCC.
