This basic art course is designed to review the fundamentals of drawing, painting, color mixing, perspective, basic design elements, and art appreciation.
This course is designed to provide specialized instruction for members of the KHS Color Guard. Students will develop equipment manipulation techniques (flag, rifle, etc.) as well as elements of dance, character development and portrayal. Students will also develop techniques in marching and teamwork. Audition Required for competition but not to enroll in the class. (Fall Semester only)
The ensemble is designed to provide specialized instruction for percussion students. Students will have the opportunity to develop percussion performance techniques on the numerous instruments of the percussion family. Fall classes will focus on Battery and Front Ensemble performance for marching band. The remainder of the class will focus on percussion section additions to Wind Ensemble and Concert Band literature as well as stand alone percussion ensemble literature
The premier concert performance ensemble of KHS. The goal is to provide students with the opportunity to develop and refine musicality and technical skills that will enable them to perform a wide variety of band literature at the grade 3-5 level of difficulty. Students will focus on personal mastery of instruments and the increase in quality of tone production, intonation, ensemble balance, technical and lyrical interpretation of music. Performances will include School Concerts, state and local tours, Regional, State and District Band Festivals. Previous instrumental experience is required.
Traditional Jazz Big Band for advanced music students who wish to learn to express themselves through various musical styles such as rock, jazz and Latin. Emphasis is on ensemble playing and improvisation. (Spring Semester only)
This choir is open to the general population of KHS to allow students to sing and develop a respect for and an interest in different types of music. The student will learn the basics of music theory to include notation, dynamic markings, tempo and rhythm markings, major/minor scale structure, key signatures, interval and choral structures.
This course is designed as an introduction to Guitar Performance and technique. Students will learn basic music notation and theory as well as a beginning understanding of guitar performance. This class will focus on individual performance of the guitar and musicality with some small ensemble performance. This is an Introductory class for students with little to no guitar experience.
